Cambridge Announces Promotions of Rick Kuhlman and Andrea Shafer in Advocacy and Administration Division

Cambridge has announced the promotions of Rick Kuhlman to Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, and Andrea Shafer to Senior Vice President and Chief Supervision Officer. These roles are within the Advocacy and Administration Division, one of three new divisions formed in 2022 as part of the firm’s executive structure.

FAIRFIELD, IA – May 10, 2023 – Cambridge has announced the promotions of Rick Kuhlman to Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, and Andrea Shafer to Senior Vice President and Chief Supervision Officer. These roles are within the Advocacy and Administration Division, one of three new divisions formed in 2022 as part of the firm’s executive structure.

Rick Kuhlman
In the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Kuhlman will oversee Cambridge’s Regulatory Affairs and Dispute Resolution Teams, as well as day-to-day operation of the Legal Department. He will provide direction on relevant legal and regulatory issues for the firm with a focus on risk mitigation. He joined Cambridge in 2019 with more than 25 years of private practice experience. He has provided premier regulatory and risk mitigation support to Cambridge’s General Counsel, while also focusing on supporting the growth of Cambridge in connection with the firm’s broker-dealer, insurance, and registered investment advisor operations. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both economics and psychology and a Juris Doctorate from Washington University School of Law. He is currently licensed to practice in the following jurisdictions; Missouri, Illinois, and District of Columbia; and holds the FINRA Series 7 and 24 licenses.

Andrea Shafer
In her new role as Senior Vice President and Chief Supervision Officer, Shafer will be responsible for leading and overseeing the Advocacy and Supervision Team, and providing guidance for legal and regulatory issues while developing and executing overall strategic planning for the firm. She joined Cambridge in 2007 and has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. She has been responsible for long-term strategic planning efforts and has overseen Cambridge’s Regulatory Affairs and Advocacy and Supervision teams with a focus on risk mitigation. She has also served as a facilitator for the Cambridge Community of Women, a sponsor for the Cambridge Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Committee, and as chair for the Cambridge Conflicts Committee. Shafer was named an InvestmentNews 40 Under 40 honoree1 in 2022. She holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law in addition to her FINRA Series 7, 24, and 66 licenses.
