Episode 162: Taking 'The Next Step'

BJ Carter and Drew Jauron of Cambridge

“As an aspiring leader – someone who wants to create a culture like this -- having this experience and being on the ground level gives me a really strong background to move forward.” – Drew Jauron

From associates, to financial professionals, to our extended Cambridge family, Cambridge takes great pride in making a difference in the lives of others. This holds true for our 11th class of The Next Step® interns, through a program that helps students learn about the financial services industry, and allows Cambridge to tap into the next generation of talent. This summer, Cambridge welcomed 30 student interns to the firm’s Fairfield, Iowa, and Phoenix, Arizona offices for a summer of learning, mentorship, and fun.

Drew Jauron is an intern with Cambridge’s Project Management Team, and current University of Iowa student. He is studying management and economics, and says he wanted to expand his horizon in the world of finance as an aspiring leader. Drew shares what it’s like to be part of the Cambridge culture. From his day-to-day work, to volunteering in the community, to an unexpected encounter with Cambridge’s founder Eric Schwartz, Drew is experiencing all the program has to offer. As a student-athlete, when he’s not studying during the school year, he can be found leading Hawkeye fans as a member of the Iowa Cheerleaders. Drew says he is enjoying the opportunity to grow and meet new people.

BJ Carter, Human Resources Generalist and coordinator of The Next Step Program, explained that this year’s class of interns is the largest to date. Each year Cambridge receives hundreds of applications from students across the country. BJ shares how the goal of the program is to offer students a path into the financial services industry while providing experiences they can continue to leverage throughout their professional careers. These include lunch and learns, educational courses, opportunities to interact and network with leadership members, and the ability to volunteer within the local community.
