As a business and economics major, Steven Lathrop always knew he wanted a career in finance. After beginning a career path towards becoming a Chief Financial Officer, Steven learned the corporate world wasn’t for him – he desired more flexibility. After working in insurance and securities in a captive environment, Steven decided to try his hand in the independent space and has never looked back. Steven Lathrop began his career in financial services in 1987 with Prudential Insurance. In 1997 he partnered with John Melbon to form Benefit Partners, a firm that specialized in employee benefits and executive compensation. They sold the firm to USI Insurance Services in 2008.
In addition to his financial services career, Steven also served for 30 years in the United States Navy Reserve where he recently retired as a Captain. During his service, he deployed four times in support of the Global War on Terrorism, with deployments to Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Djibouti, and Somalia.
His education includes a BS in Economics from Cal Poly Pomana, and an MBA in Finance, Accounting and Strategic Management from Claremont Graduate University. Steven also holds the Chartered Life Underwriter® and Chartered Financial Consultant® designations, as well as the Certified Financial Planner™ certification.
He is the proud father of Michael and Christine, and he resides in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife, Linda.
