“You have to meet them where they are, empathize with the situation, and then try and open up the conversation to other possibilities.” – Ed Vargo
In this episode of Cambridge Stronger, Ed Vargo, co-founder of Burning River Advisory Group, reflects on how a personal experience with financial hardship shaped his perspective on financial planning and client relationships. From early influences to building a purpose-driven practice, Ed shares how leading with empathy and meeting clients where they are has guided his approach — especially when supporting individuals through major life transitions. He also discusses how focusing on purpose can create more meaningful financial conversations and help clients make more informed decisions with confidence.
This episode offers insight into:
Co-founder, Burning River Advisory
Ed Vargo learned early in life the importance of financial independence. After his parents’ divorce, his mother — a South Korean immigrant — was forced to give up custody of her four children due to a lack of financial resources. That experience left a lasting impact on Ed and continues to shape his perspective today.
It’s what led him to dedicate his professional life to supporting individuals — particularly women — through significant life transitions. Having seen firsthand the challenges that can arise without financial independence or access to financial information, Ed is committed to helping others navigate those moments with clarity and confidence.
He carries those same values into his personal life as he and his wife raise their five daughters.
